Welcome to Rochester Trolley & Rail

Rochester Trolley-- We're working to put Rochester...Back on Track!

Incorporated in August 2003 as a NYS Railroad Corporation, we're working to develop, own and operate a heritage rail-based trolley and streetcar system to serve the Greater Rochester area and beyond. Great community partnerships help move this endeavor forward. We are targeting an underserved and/or unserved market, creating new jobs, economic development, community revitalization, and leveraging a unique mode of transportation to better connect people.

Our Mission:
To serve the tourism and recreational transportation needs of our community today, tomorrow and beyond, using rail-based heritage trolleys that combine the nostalgia and aesthetics of yesteryear with contemporary conveniences.

Our Vision:
To connect each major activity center and recreational destination in the Greater Rochester area through a rail-based heritage trolley system, fostering a sense of community and connectedness, and restoring Downtown Rochester as a focal point for our region.

In many areas, efforts are underway to convert former railroad rights-of-way into recreational trails. We see this as a great quality-of-life initiative for our community, though the greater opportunity exists to turn these latent assets into sources of tourism, job creation, economic development, and community revitalization for our region. Doing so involves creating a shared-use for those corridors, as pictured here and as done in Denver, Colorado. A similar project is underway in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The best part of the Trolleys and Streetcars is their historical connection. As you can see below, the appearance and experience of a trolley is very different from that of any bus or similar transportation mode. Please help us make this vision a reality -- bringing heritage trolleys and streetcars back to Rochester.
